DBColorZ: The Sparking Zero Color Customizer

INTRODUCTION

DBColorZ is an in-game color editor for Dragon Ball Sparking! ZERO. It's purpose is to allow people to create and share their own recolors, without the need of installing Unreal Engine. All you need is the ModLib from here, and the game itself.

Presets created with the in-game menu are exported as .json's, which can then be uploaded to Gamebanana and automatically be recognized by Unverum. Colors are saved to "DRAGON BALL Sparking! ZERO\SparkingZERO\Mods\DBColorZ\Colors", and are saved using the format "[CharacterID]~Color[SlotID].json". A list of all character ID's can be found here.

You can have a maximum of 100 Color Presets per character form.

Included in the mod is a recolor for every single character that is currently in the game, based on an alternate color that they had in a different Dragon Ball game. You can view every alternate color I created by visiting the Google Drive link here.

GUIDE

  1. When an actor is loaded on the current map, press the "C" key on your keyboard to make the Select Characters menu visible.
  2. Select the actor you want to edit, and the Select Material Slot menu will become visible. You can scroll vertically by hovering over the headers on the left side, and horizontally by hovering over the buttons. Hovering over a button will also highlight the currently selected material.
  3. Selecting a material will enable the Modify Material menu, where you can begin changing the parameters of your selected material. On Page 1 you can modify the Vector Parameters, and on Page 2 you can modify the Scalar and Texture Parameters. You can use the drop-down menus on each page to change which parameter you are currently editing.
  4. Once you've finished modifying your preset, click the PRESET MENU button in the top right of the Select Material Slot menu. Once there, type in the name of your preset along with your name in the Preset Name and Author Name fields respectively, and click on the Save Preset button. You can now select your preset using the arrows in the Select Characters menu while your character is selected.

NOTES

  • To overwrite a preset instead of creating a new one, simply make sure that the Preset and Author Names are identical to the ones you wish to overwrite.
  • When modifying costumes for a preset, make sure you load the preset before starting if one already exists. Then you can safely overwrite the preset once finished and it'll apply to both costumes without issue (this is particularly useful for damaged outfits).
  • In regards to transforming/fused characters, the new character will look for the same exact preset slot ID of the character you start out as, so make sure you create a preset for every form for the character you're editing!
  • You can press the "Color Swatches" button when on the Modify Material menu to bring up a new panel, where you can save materials for later to apply to other slots on the model.
  • In the Config folder for DBColorZ, you will find a file called Engine.ini. You can modify several optional toggles here, such as displaying Character ID's instead of their short name, randomizing the presets that Player 2 uses, and more.
  • If DBColorZ detects a material that isn't in the original game, it will ask for a .json containing the parameters used by said material. By using "Example_ParamList.json" which is found in the mod's Resources folder, you can write a list of the parameters used in your custom material so that DBColorZ can recognize it and modify it as needed. If you are not the creator of the custom material in question, please ask the creator for a list of the params they used.
  • Custom Characters should be 100% compatible with DBColorZ. You can even use this mod to view their internal ID if you so desired.
  • Aura swapping is not included in this mod, however ZeroSpark documentation should go over how to swap aura effects around with it's own .json files.

TO-DO

  • Summons (i.e. Majin Buu in Hercule's Ultimate, and auxiliary characters that spawn during a fusion animation) currently do not change.
  • Presets currently do not transfer to other players when playing online.
  • When vanishing, you may see the original colors of the character in the after-image effect.
  • Occasionally, a character's preset might not reflect in the turnaround before a battle begins. This should resolve itself upon the start of the character's intro cutscene.
  • Parts of the game may be obscured if you do not have a 16:9 monitor, or aren't running the game in 16:9 when the mod menu is visible.
  • If you set the game's language to anything other than your default language, then there's a high chance that most if not all ModLib related mods will stop working. This is not specific to DBColorZ, however it's worth mentioning.

All of these are currently being looked into, and will likely be fixed in future updates.

If there are any more bugs and/or issues, please let me know and I'll look into it for future updates.
