Tournament Mode

Tournament Mode is a series of parallel quests providing back-to-back 1v1 fights inspired by World Tournament and Arcade modes in past Dragonball Z games.
Background:
I really felt the omission of a tournament/arcade mode in Xenoverse 2. In the old games I loved being able to pick a character and fight against random AI.
Gulfric's Random tournament mods (here and here) showed that it was possible to create something similar to the previous games but they had some issues, such as:
- Lack of AI skills.
- No progression through the tournament rounds.
- Buggy generic dialogue and character spawns.
- Missing AI combat grunts.
This mod fixes all of these problems and provides several parallel quests that will keep you fighting!
Features: 17 tournaments with rosters based on past games. Characters have skills assigned based on what they have available in Parallel Quests. Generic dialogue is disabled for all except final round characters due to bugs but you will still hear unique dialogue between characters. HP is set to 2 bars for both the player and AI at the start of the tournament and will gradually increase to 3 bars in the final round. Starting AI Ki will scale depending on round number.
IMPORTANT: Xenoverse 2 has a limit of 192 parallel quests (including base game content). If this limit is reached XV2 Installer will attempt to roll back the changes. However, this can fail and corrupt your game installation. If this occurs you will need to clear your installation and re-install all your mods. Due to this, you should be mindful of how many tournaments you can install at once.
Unless you're sure of the amount of quests you have installed, you should install 3 or fewer quests to be safe. Tournament progression
- As you progress through the rounds you are more likely to fight tougher characters. This gives every character a chance to shine and gives the player a fitting finale.
- Characters are assigned to multiple rounds and each round can have different characters spawn. This lets you replay each tournament over and over again!
- Duplicate prevention. If you fight Goku in round 1 you won't fight Ultra Instinct Goku in Round 10. This keeps variety high within a tournament.
- AI characters will start with increased Ki depending on the round.
- The fights will take place on stages relevant to the character you are fighting.
- Characters will start in a transformation which is influenced by what round you are on. Eg Vegeta won't start transformed in Round 1 and 2 but will be a Super Saiyan in rounds 3, 4 and 5 in the Shin Budokai 2 tournament.
Tournaments:
Legacy tournaments: These were present in the original version of Tournament Mode but now are slightly less interesting than some of the later Tournaments that have been created. All of these tournaments still receive updates in each version.
Legacy Tournaments:
- Budokai 1 - 5 rounds.
- Budokai 2 - 5 rounds.
- Budokai 3 - 5 rounds.
- Shin Budokai 2 - 10 rounds.
- Xenoverse 1 - 10 rounds.
- Xenoverse 2 - 10 rounds.
- Xenoverse 2 DLC Tournament - 10 rounds.
- Destroyer Tournament - 5 rounds.
- Super Budokai Tournament - 5 rounds (New in 4.0)
Recommended Tournaments:
- Z Tournament: 10 rounds.
- Super Tournament: 10 rounds.
- Saiyan Saga Tournament - 5 rounds.
- Frieza Saga Tournament - 5 rounds.
- Cell Saga Tournament - 6 rounds.
- Buu Saga Tournament - 6 rounds.
There isn't a way to add support for custom characters without making those mods a dependency. I've added support for several custom characters and stages here.
V3 changes!
- Xenoverse 2 was split into two tournaments due to issues loading all the characters into the same parallel quest.
- There has been a general design change to prioritise randomisation over progression. Transformed/powered up characters will still appear in later rounds.
Duplicate prevention extends to categories and fusions in some tournaments.
Eg In the Xenoverse 2 Tournament, androids are grouped in a category. So if Android 17 spawns in round 1, you won't see Android 18 in any other rounds in this tournament.
Completing the quests give some basic rewards, experience and money. I haven't really put much thought into the rewards, so consider them placeholder. How to start: All tournaments require you to have completed Parallel Quest 02: 'A Deal?! The Saiyan Brothers'.
Once complete the tournaments should show up under 'Event Quests'.
Select your quest and pick ONLY 1 CHARACTER. (New in 4.0. additional party members will be despawned).
Technical
Generic dialogue between characters is only voiced for the first 20 characters loaded by the PQ. These tournaments can have 90+ characters/variants so I've disabled generic dialogue for all except final round characters to prevent unvoiced dialogue. Unique dialogue will still play.
In very rare circumstances, a valid (based on progression) character cannot be chosen to spawn. If this happens, a character who hasn't spawned will be chosen from the whole tournament roster. This should guarantee a character always spawns. This should be resolved in V3.
Characters have awaken skills specified. These won't be used unless ai_extend is set to true in xv2patcher.ini.
AI in V2 The ai_table_entry for all charactes at the start of the fight is 314. As the AI loses health they will change their ai value to 325 or 345. As a brute force solution to ultimate move spam the AI will have their ultimates locked at the start of the fight and will gain the ability to use them when their HP drops.
AI in V3 AI profiles have been customised on per character basis. Where possible AI profiles have been chosen to prioritise their ability to use super and ultimate skills. Unlike V2, AI will transition through 3 stages depending on their remaining HP in the round. Several skills have been added/removed from various character to assist the AI. Stats (mostly Ki and Stamina) have been adjusted to further assist several characters.
AI in 4.0 AI has a chance to start using the Cross Versus AI at the halfway point of the tournament. The AI is guaranteed to use the Cross Versus AI in the final round. The Cross Versus AI is especially challenging to due to it's ability to use guard breaks and follow up with Ultimate Attacks. All AI profiles have received a pass over which should mean the AI is better at using Super Attacks. Music: Custom round music has been removed from base quests. Use the Tournament Mode - Addons mod if you want to use custom round music.
- Known Issues: AI characters will spawn within rocks during the intro cutscenes for fights on the Destroyed Namek and Volcanic Wasteland maps. They will be teleported out when the fight actually begins. Fixed in V2.
- Starting a tournament with AI characters on the players team is not supported. If the AI characters does appear, they won't do anything. Select your character then press start to skip AI selection. Fixed in 4.0.
- Occasionally portraits are missing for AI characters.
- AI skill choices have been automatically generated based on the PQ scripts. In most cases this is fine but for some characters which are used a lot (eg Krillin) their move list ends up weird and I've had to fix these manually. I've fixed all the ones I've found but it wouldn't surprise me if there were others. Lots of tweaks in V2. Should be resolved in V3. Movesets further enhanced in 4.0.
- In tournaments with large rosters you'll hear a characters voice at the PQ intro screen.
- Xenoverse 2 has a limit of 192 parallel quests. If this limit is reached XV2 Installer will attempt to roll back the changes. However, this can fail and corrupt your game installation. If this occurs you will need to clear your installation and re-install all your mods. Due to this, you should be mindful of how many tournaments you can install at once.
I recommend installing no more than 3 at once.
Recommended mods: Permanent stage destruction - Great for the single stage tournaments because it shows you how much damage you've caused.
Revamp Xenoverse 2 - Amazing visual overhaul and content addition. I would not have learnt XV2 modding if this did not cause me to get back into the game.
Less AI icons - Clean up your hud!
Tournament Mode - Addons - Like the tournaments? Want more characters, stages and costumes? Get them here!

You can ignore my long comment below now bro. I manage to install all of your mod by replacing an existing quest using “Quest Importer”.
Report
So is there a way to know how much quest I have? Does the number that shown in pq quest selection in the lobby reflect the amount of quest that I have? When I successfully installed this mod and I go to the event pq quest, it shown that your quest is number 179. So is that mean I have 179 quest??
The problem is, before I manage to install your quest mod, I actually installed 5 other pq quest mod from this site. Your quest mod is the 6th quest mod that I installed, and when I installed your mods, xv2ins said that I already reach the limit of pq quest I could have. Then my game got corrupted so I have to delete the system folder, quest folder & and validating file through steam, etc..
Is that mean I really only have 4-5 free slot for quest mod now?? Does the dlc can increase the number of quest mod that I have, cause I only have the base game now. I do have revamp 5 installed too tho…
Report
Oh btw can I uninstall your quest and then install the other variant of your quest in the same save? Will there be a huge consequence and risk to my save file??
Report
I’ve been uninstalling and reinstalling constantly to build this thing and haven’t destroyed my save file yet.
As far as I’m aware there shouldn’t be anything that could be destroyed but I believe it should be recoverable with the save editor in the event there is some issues.
To answer your parent comment, yeah there is very few free slots for quests (especially with Revamp installed).
Owning DLC packs doesn’t increase this limit but I’m hoping the next XV2 DLCs increase this limit but we’ll need to wait and see.
Report
4.0 is live!
Please note that the 192 parallel quest limits includes vanilla quests and the free amount available has shrunk over time.
Be careful installing quests, to be safe install no more than 3!
This is a big update and I’ve noticed with the last XV2 update some of the AI values are a bit buggy and the AI opponents won’t move.
I’ve tried to stamp all of these out but there are a lot of tournaments (+ variants) across the base mod and the addons mod.
Let me know if you encounter any issues with AI or missing fighters and I’ll attempt to resolve.
Report
Thanks man, corrupted my game and now I have to uninstall and reinstall 400+ mods. If this isn’t working, then don’t keep it up or fix it already. Prick.
Report
I’ve covered this off in another comment with OathOfOblivion.
I’m sorry you’ve experienced but I can’t even attempt to help without more information.
When you say corrupted what happened? Was it an infinite load?
Infinite Loading is caused by the game attempting to load files that do not exist. These files are either missing from your mod or your mod has a misconfigured BCS file which calls for files that are not intended to be within the mod. Unfortunately, there is no one solution for this since each instance of infinite loading is situational and has its own set of circumstances.
Tournament Mode only includes script files so this isn’t the direct cause.
Which tournament did you install?
Did this only occur after you attempted to uninstall the tournament?
Did you have any other quests installed?
Based off your response I’m suspecting that XV2 Installer may have issues installing/uninstalling quests with large scripts into large load orders.
Report
Dude, wtf? Did you read description?

Reported your comment for insulting modder
Report
Don’t use this mod. causes infinite loading, and once you uninstall it takes alot of files it really shouldnt with it. and causes your game to break. Specifically CAR’s VOX files. and btw. the only fix for this is a clean re-install of EVERYTHING. thank you for wasting my afternoon. i very much wanted to spend my day off re-organizing and re-installing. and no. its not the “”Quest limit”””i did not have ANY other quest mods at the time this happened. you are the one and ONLY quest mod in the system. and it broke the game beyond salvage.
TLDR: DOWNLOAD THIS IF YOU WANT TO HAVE TO DO A FRESH INSTALL.
Report
I’m sorry you’re having issues but I genuinely have no idea what is causing this in your installation.
There was one other report from another user but they did eventually manage to resolve it.
To me this indicates there is an incompatibility with another semi-common mod but I haven’t experienced this myself (aside from the mentioned 192 quest limit).
I am able to run all quests provided alongside RevampXV2 with dozens of characters installed.
If the infinite load after the main menu is occurring then the installation has been corrupted.
Since the install is already broken, xv2 installer won’t uninstall anything correctly.
You can extract the .x2m files to see I’m only including the standard quest scripts.
It is not doing anything special, however the scripts are quite large and will take some time for xv2 installer to process.
There is a known issue that can occur in the larger tournaments where audio for characters starts playing incorrectly, however in my experience this occurs rarely and corrects itself after a restart.
One again, sorry you’re having these issues but I can’t attempt to help without more information.
Did this issue occur after a blank installation with only a single tournament installed?

anyway to save my mods or nah? bc i corrupted the game

If you installed all the PQs and hit the 192 parallel quest limit then unfortunately you need to clear your mod install and reset.

I have installed the missions and some of the addon tournament mode and it just restarts
please help
Report
Do you mean the game crashes after loading in?
I’ve this happen if you had too many Parallel Quests installed.
The game only supports 192 parallel quests and while the XV2 Installer will try and uninstall your last quest if you reach the limit, I’ve found it usually just corrupts your installation.
Only way I know to fix it is to clear your modded installation and reinstall all your mods.

Hello I have a question if it’s even possible? Since this mod was created, do you think that a free for all mode could be made like a 3 way,4 way,5, and 6 etc. type of battle where all characters could fight each other at the same time? Like for example there 6 fighters total in a 3v3 but instead a 3v3 every character can fight each other?
Report
No, this isn’t possible. The base game would need to support this.
Report
The addons mod is released!
Check it out if you want more tournaments.
Report
thank u so much for this tournament mode ! is it possible to prevent fight Goku VS Goku if i choose Goku ? (the same with every character of course) thanks in advance for your answer 🙂 and thanks again for this excellent work
Report
I wish this was possible, it would be a great improvement.
Unforunately, I haven’t found a way to check what character the player is within the scripting language.
If I discover a way to do this (or new script conditions are added) I will absolutely add this into the mod.

I installed the mod and then that appeared:Failed to apply Patch “AIExtend:CheckmobAlling4”
then i put false on ai extend option on the xv2 patcher, then another thing of failed patch “Mob control” appeared, that was only AFTER i installed this mod
OBS: even when i removed the mod again, the game still had those problems

did you update the game. that would be the problem if you did

Im having a little problem, where i try and start it. After i select my character and it goes to the loading screen it crashes. would there be a reason for this? If you dont know i understand.

I thought I was crazy, glad I’m not the only one

What character are you picking?
Is this the only character you are selecting?
I’ve had the loading screen crash happen when I tried to load too many characters into the game for the XV2 tournament.

All good.
I managed to reproduce.
Patch incoming.

alright thank you very much. I cant wait to play it.

Hello! First of all, thank you! this is a mod I didn’t know I needed until I had it 🙂
second of all, I have a strange problem.. not a major one that bothers me too much.
So, all of the missions work amazingly except the Xenoverse 2 VS 10 mission.
It will auto crash when I play as some mod characters, but not as others.
Example: Fututre Gohan SsG (by. milkman) works on all missions, but when I choose him on the last one the game pulls the loading screen up, sits for a normal amount of time, then crashes.
Not sure if it’s a ME problem, but I thought I’d mention this here just in case.
If it is an unfixable thing, for whatever reason, then It’s not a problem for me! 🙂
Report
Interesting, I’m pushing the XV2 tournament to the limit of the number of characters that it will load before it crashes.
This may mean that the custom characters are pushing beyond this limit and I may need to dial it back.
Just to double check, are you only loading the mission with one player character selected?
Report
yep, Just one selected. press start to skip like the instructions.
It works fine with all my cac’s oddly lol.
Report
I’ll install milkman’s mod and see if I can reproduce.
Edit: Struggling to find this mod. Can you link it?

All good.
I managed to reproduce.
Patch incoming.

Thanks for all your help! I appreciate it very much!

Wow! This mod looks amazing! OwO
A question, can you make a tournament that you only fight with fusions?
Because the truth is that I would really like to just fight against mergers. :3
Is there any way to do it? Greetings! 😀
Report
Uhh you could but thats only:
Gotenks
Both Vegitos
3 Gogetas
Zamasu
Mira fusion
Not a lot of variety there.
Report
I know, it’s not much but I would like to be able to fight with them. Please :3
Report
I’ve made a fusion tournament in the upcoming addon mod that should be released in the next couple of days. It isn’t just strictly fusions (includes characters who have merged eg Piccolo) but should hopefully be enjoyable.
Report
I wish someone who can make (Tournament Mode)
Let’s be randomly ..!
Example I made a personal (Ozaro)
It is fashionable to be classified in the tournament
The program receives your characters or (modates)
And adds in the tournament
(1VS1) (Opponent of Tournament (10))
(2VS2) (opponent of tournament (10))
(3VS3) (Opponent of Tournament (10))
Report
Sorry, I don’t understand the first part.
2v2 and 3v3 isn’t going to happen.
This is technically possible but it will add way too much complexity for a mode I don’t enjoy that much.
Report
the first part…?
For example, can the program add special characters?
Automatically, like I have Ozaru. The program is done by adding my own character in the tournament?
Report
AH I understand now.
Custom characters can be supported but they would be a hard dependency for the mod.
There’s an addon mod coming out in hopefully a couple of days with some custom characters supported from Revamp XV2.
Report
good night, can i change mod characters to characters from other mods?
Report
This just uses the Parallel Quest scripting, so it is possible but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’ve worked with the scripting language before.
